It’s International Women’s Day on 8 March and we all know what’s happening in Sheffield, but what about Barnsley? Our very own Katie Edwards will be speaking at an exciting event focused on images of women and the body.

‘A range of inspirational speakers will help celebrate International Women’s Day at a Barnsley Town Hall event on Saturday, March 8.

With the theme: ‘Look at me – images of women and the body’ – the following speakers will be sharing their thoughts and views:

  • Dr Lorna Warren, Lecturer at University of Sheffield: Look at me! Images of women and ageing in popular culture (1pm)
  • Anne Fay, Head of Education at The Wallace Collection: The Beau Monde: Fashionable dress in 18th century Europe (1.30pm)
  • Dr Katie Edwards, Lecturer and Author: Admen and Eve – the post-feminist icon of female power (2.30pm)
  • Sam Cleasby, Photographer and Blogger of So Bad Ass: Body Image (3pm).

Cllr Roy Miller, the Council’s Cabinet Spokesperson for Development, Environment and Culture, said: “We are lucky to have secured such renowned speakers for this event, and these thought provoking topics will appeal to a wide audience including men and women of all ages.”

Tickets cost just £2.50 for entry to all four talks, and are available from Experience Barnsley Museum, tel: 01226 772500.’
