Hidden Perspectives

Bringing the Bible Out of the Closet

Richard Stott

“Initmacy with Christ triptych “
Oil and gold leaf on canvas.

These three paintings emerge from my experience in prayer and meditation inspired by the medieval Christian mystics. In particular St John of the Cross’ poem ‘The Dark Night of the Soul’. They are grounded in my sense of self as as a gay man and my experience of Christ and his body.

Richard Stott is a methodist minister, artist and art psychotherapist. He works in Sheffield for the Methodist Church exploring new ways of being church centred on the visual arts. He has a studio and is developing an artspace to explore spirituality, art and community at 35 Chapel Walk in Sheffield city centre.
